Philarmonic Band of Larissa


The Philharmonic Band of MUNICIPAL CONDERVATORY OF LARISSA (MCL) was founded in 1952, having as first Conductor G. Kamilieris, who died while conducting the Philharmonic in the Concert Hall of the Condervatory in 1963. From taht time up to 1978 the responsibility of conducting the Philharmonic was undertook by Giannis Tsanakas. From 1978 the Philharmonic has as conductors, A. Prionas, A. Vakalathanasioy nad E.Minas.

Today conductor of the Band is George Minas who aspires to give a modern (light) pieces. Marches, classical music from Haendel to Bizet, Opera music, Jazz standarts, film music and modern pieces for Wind Orchstra and marching Band are in its repertory.
For its 50th anniversary the Philharmonic Band, performed pieces like Finlandia of Sibelius, Bolero of Ravel, Pavane in Blue, Madame Butterfly, Concerto de Aranjuez, Concerto for trumpet and orchestra (transcription for Band) of hummel.
The Philharmonic Band also, helped and supported the social, religious and national festivities of Larissa and the surrounding region, but contributed in making known to the popular masses the European music. With new arrangements of classical pieces for wind instruments has given - and still gives - concerts in parks, squares and concert halls, with a very ample repertory.



Also thre is a continual co-operation with famous Greek musicians and soloists the Municipal Ballet of Larissa and the National Opera of Greece.
The Plilharmonic Band has given many concerts in Larissa and participated in many social and cultural exhange and Band's Festivals in Greece and around Europe, such as:
